The Tigers represent Clemson athletics in the ACC. The Tigers bring 46 athletes into the ACC competition this season. Clemson University competes in NCAA Division I from Clemson, South Carolina, in the state's Upstate region. The Tigers are a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which formed in 1953, and they sponsor 21 varsity teams. The lineup includes football, baseball, men's and women's basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, rowing, women's lacrosse and gymnastics.
Football has won 22 ACC championships, the most of any program in the league. The most recent came in December 2024, when Clemson beat SMU 34-31 in the ACC Championship Game. Clemson also won ACC titles in 2011 and every year from 2015 through 2020, plus 2022, and it counts 27 conference championships in all when earlier Southern Conference and SIAA titles are included.
Women's sports have added new milestones too. Gymnastics, which began competing in 2024, won the program's first ACC championship in March 2026, helped by a school-record bar rotation.
Football plays at Memorial Stadium, better known as Death Valley, which opened in 1942 and seats 81,500. Its record crowd is 86,092, set against Florida State in 1999. Basketball and gymnastics share Littlejohn Coliseum, and baseball plays at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Soccer plays at Riggs Field, softball at McWhorter Stadium, volleyball at Jervey Gym, tennis at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility and women's lacrosse at Conklin Field.
The biggest rivalry is with South Carolina, known as the Palmetto Bowl. The two schools first played in 1896 in Columbia, where South Carolina won 12-6, and Clemson led the series 73-43-4 going into the 2024 meeting. Off the field, the Clemson class ring dates to 1896. Below its palmetto tree sits a little-known motto, "Who shall separate us now?" Graduates answer the question with "No one."
