Team Profile
Baylor University Bears represent championship excellence and pride rooted in Waco, Texas, since 1899. Their green and gold colors echo the wildflowers of Texas springs, and mascots Judge Indy and Judge Belle embody the strong bear spirit of the university. Baylor’s 2011-2012 “Year of the Bear” marked one of the most historic seasons in college athletics, setting NCAA records for combined wins across football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball. Football’s signature moment was Robert Griffin III’s Heisman Trophy-winning campaign leading the team to an Alamo Bowl victory. The women’s basketball team made history with an undefeated 40-0 national championship season, the first NCAA team to reach that milestone. Baylor’s track and field program has earned the nickname “Quarter-Mile U” for producing Olympic legends Michael Johnson, Jeremy Wariner, and Darold Williamson, highlighted by 20 national 4x400 relay titles. The Immortal Ten tragedy and traditions like the Baylor Line foster a strong sense of family and resilience. McLane Stadium serves as a vibrant home for Bears football, anchored by rich athletic success, faith, and a commitment to continuing a proud and championship-driven heritage.
