Team Profile
Brigham Young University Cougars represent a heritage of competitive excellence and spiritual pride in Provo, Utah. Founded in 1875, BYU boasts 13 NCAA team national championships across cross country, men’s volleyball, and golf. The cross country program is elite, with the women capturing six titles and men two, aided by high-altitude training and coaches like Ed Eyestone. The football program won the 1984 national championship and produced Heisman winner Ty Detmer, with a celebrated quarterback lineage that includes Jim McMahon and Steve Young. Men’s volleyball has claimed three NCAA championships; women’s teams consistently contend for titles. Mascot Cosmo the Cougar embodies school spirit, complemented by the popular “Rise and Shout” chant. With 86 individual NCAA champions and a strong Olympic legacy, BYU combines tradition, faith, and athletic excellence. Joining the Big 12 Conference in 2023, Cougar Nation continues to blaze trails, inspiring competitiveness and community engagement.
