Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, embodies Chippewa pride and competitive excellence since 1942. Notably, the Chippewas secured the 1974 NCAA Division II Football National Championship with a commanding 54-14 victory over Delaware, establishing a legacy of football dominance. The football program won back-to-back MAC championships in 2006 and 2007, defending their titles and reinforcing their elite status. Wrestling excellence continues through numerous individual NCAA champions and Mid-American Conference titles, led historically by legends like John Rollins and Casey Cunningham. Baseball and softball have produced notable postseason runs and World Series appearances, while swimming and diving maintain national competitiveness. The Chippewas’ maroon and gold colors and “Action C” logo symbolize modern excellence and a strong cultural heritage tied to the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation, honored through ongoing educational partnerships.
