Team Profile
The Detroit Mercy Titans embody a rich and storied basketball history, the resilient grit of the Motor City, and a proud Jesuit and Mercy tradition in Detroit, Michigan. The university's national identity was forged during the Dick Vitale era, highlighted by the legendary 1977 team that won 21 consecutive games and made a thrilling run to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet Sixteen. The Titans rekindled that magic in the late 1990s, making back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and securing a memorable upset victory over UCLA in 1999. In the modern era, the program captured the nation's attention through the incredible scoring prowess of Antoine Davis, who finished his career in 2023 as the second all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I history. Calihan Hall, one of the historic arenas of college basketball, has been the home for this legacy, serving as a proving ground for a program that proudly represents the heart and soul of Detroit basketball. The Detroit Mercy Titans stand as a testament to a mid-major program with a major-league history, a proud institution that has consistently produced legendary moments and figures in the world of college hoops.
