Team Profile
The Eastern Washington Eagles embody determination and championship pride at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington. Since moving to Division I in 1983, the Eagles have built a remarkable legacy highlighted by their stunning 2010 NCAA Division I FCS football national championship, a thrilling 20-19 victory over Delaware. The iconic crimson playing surface of Roos Field—the “Red Turf”—creates an intimidating and unique home field advantage, drawing passionate fan support in an 11,702-seat stadium locked in vibrant red and white unity. As proud members of the Big Sky Conference since 1987, Eastern Washington competes competitively across multiple sports, including NCAA Tournament appearances in men’s basketball. Earlier successes include the 1982 NCAA Division II cross country national championship and the dominant NAIA wrestling program that produced multiple national champions before discontinuation. The eagle mascot, Swoop, symbolizes soaring spirit and pride, while annual rivalries like the Governor’s Cup against Montana generate electric atmospheres. From intimate Reese Court to historic Roos Field, Eastern Washington delivers a sustained, spirited championship culture that defines the Eagle Way.
