Team Profile
Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, embodies excellence, heart, and the thrilling spirit of March Madness. Since adopting the Bulldogs nickname in 1921, Gonzaga has risen from a modest program to one of college basketball’s greatest mid-major dynasties, competing fiercely in navy blue and white. Underpinning this rise is a remarkable 26-year streak of NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by a #1 national ranking in 2012-13 and multiple deep runs into Sweet Sixteens, Elite Eights, and championship games. The McCarthey Athletic Center once saw a record 100-game home winning streak, forging a fortress in Spokane. Legendary alumni include Hall of Famer John Stockton, and stars such as Domantas Sabonis, Rui Hachimura, Chet Holmgren, Drew Timme, and Jalen Suggs. Beyond basketball, Gonzaga’s athletic history features a shared 1950 boxing national title, reflecting broad competitive spirit. Moving to the Pac-12 in 2026 will mark a new chapter, increasing national exposure while preserving the underdog identity that has captured America’s heart. “Spike” the Bulldog leads a passionate Zag Nation, united by traditions like the “Go! Gonzaga!” fight song and symbols of Pacific Northwest pride. Gonzaga represents the spirit of achieving greatness against all odds.
