Team Profile
The University of HawaiÊ»i at MÄnoaâs Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow WÄhine embody the warrior spirit and rich cultural heritage of Hawaii. Competing in NCAA Division Iâs Big West Conference, they excel in a vibrant athletic tradition symbolized by green, black, silver, and white. The Rainbow WÄhine womenâs volleyball program stands as a national powerhouse with four national championships (three NCAA, one AIAW) and an unparalleled streak of NCAA Tournament appearances since 1993. Playing in the Stan Sheriff Center, they represent sustained elite competition reflecting Hawaiian warrior values. Men's volleyball recently reached new heights, claiming NCAA back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022, underscoring Rainbow Warrior dominance. The football program wrote history as the third non-automatic qualifying BCS team to reach a BCS bowlâthe 2008 Sugar Bowlâfollowing an undefeated regular season led by coach June Jones. Baseballâs runner-up finish in the 1980 College World Series and softballâs 2010 Womenâs College World Series appearance cement the programâs competitive breadth. The legendary rainbow that appeared during a 1923 upset over Oregon State has become a symbol of hope and excellence. Together, the Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow WÄhine uphold championship traditions rooted in island heritage and extraordinary competitive passion.
