The Lamar Cardinals and Lady Cardinals of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, carry a legacy of athletic achievement rooted in the Golden Triangle. Competing in the Southland Conference with red and white pride, Lamar boasts a rich history that includes Olympic champions and national titles. Their track and field program has nurtured Olympians such as Colin Ridgeway, a 1960 high jump bronze medalist for Australia, and Midde Hamrin, a 1984 marathon Olympian for Sweden. The Cardinals have won numerous national championships in golf and men's tennis and produced over 80 MLB draft selections, with 11 reaching the majors. Provost Umphrey Stadium and the Montagne Center provide top-tier venues supporting Lamar’s championship-caliber teams. Rooted in nearly a century of competitive excellence, Lamar continues to develop champions and Olympians who proudly represent the Golden Triangle and beyond.
