Team Profile
The Marist College Red Foxes embody a scenic Hudson Valley tradition, a legacy of basketball excellence, and a spirit of championship determination from their home in Poughkeepsie, New York. The university's modern identity is defined by its women's basketball dynasty, a perennial powerhouse that has dominated the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with more than ten tournament championships and a memorable run to the 2007 NCAA Tournament's Sweet Sixteen. The foundation for this success was laid in the 1980s, when the men's basketball program, led by future NBA All-Star Rik Smits, the "Dunkin' Dutchman," put Marist on the national map with its first-ever trips to March Madness. This winning culture extends to a proud rowing program that thrives on the Hudson River and a competitive, non-scholarship football team that has captured a Pioneer Football League championship. The McCann Arena, fueled by a passionate student body, has been the site of countless championship moments, creating one of the most difficult home-court advantages in the MAAC. The Marist Red Foxes represent a proud tradition of mid-major success, a program that has consistently produced legendary figures and championship moments that far exceed its size.
