Team Profile
The Michigan Tech Huskies embody a legendary hockey heritage, the rugged toughness of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and a spirit of engineering excellence from their home in Houghton. The university's soul is forged by the frozen winters of the Keweenaw Peninsula, where its Division I men's ice hockey program, under legendary coach John MacInnes, built a national dynasty, capturing three NCAA National Championships in 1962, 1965, and 1975. This rich hockey tradition is celebrated annually during the iconic Winter Carnival, a week-long festival of incredible snow statues and fierce competition that stands as one of the most unique and beloved traditions in all of college sports. As a historic power in the CCHA, the Huskies compete inside the revered John J. MacInnes Student Ice Arena, a classic hockey barn that has been home to generations of All-Americans and future NHL stars. The university's winning culture extends to its Division II sports, with a men's basketball program that has made multiple trips to the Elite Eight and a women's cross country team with its own national title. The Michigan Tech Huskies are a testament to a program built in the image of its surroundings: tough, smart, and resilient, with a championship heart forged in the coldest winters.
