Team Profile
The North Dakota Fighting Hawks represent the pride and tradition of the Peace Garden State at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Established in 1930, the Hawks compete in The Summit League donning kelly green and white colors. The program boasts remarkable competitive distinction across multiple sports, notably eight NCAA Division I men's ice hockey championships (1959, 1963, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2000, 2016) showcasing sustained dominance on the ice. The 2001 Division II football national championship and three consecutive women’s basketball national titles from 1997-1999 further illustrate program depth. Facilities such as the $100+ million Ralph Engelstad Arena and Alerus Center provide championship-caliber venues energizing fans. Legends from the Hawks include Olympic champions like the Lamoureux twins, NHL stars Jonathan Toews and T.J. Oshie, and noted basketball figure Phil Jackson. From their historic Flickertail roots to the Fighting Hawks’ current standing, North Dakota embodies prairie determination and excellence. Hawk nation unites behind the mascot The Fighting Hawk, flying proudly as kelly green and white warriors who forge champions on the regional and national stages.
