The University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers embody a spirit of pioneering determination and competitive excellence within Birmingham’s steel-city heritage. Since launching in 1978, UAB basketball has thrived with 15 NCAA tournament appearances and historic upsets, including defeating #1 Kentucky. Protective Stadium now serves as an impressive home for the football program, which was successfully resurrected in 2017 and quickly advanced to bowl victories. Blaze the Dragon, the fierce mascot, lights the path of Blazers athletics throughout 18 sports. Conference championships span football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and rifle. The men’s soccer team regularly shocks top-ranked programs, and the golf program produced U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell. Located in Alabama’s Magic City, UAB athletics represent resilience, community pride, and a blazing trail of championship aspiration remains a core focus. This is UAB. This is Blazer Nation.
