The USC Upstate Spartans embody a warrior spirit and Southern pride at the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Transitioning to Division I in 2007, the Spartans honor revolutionary heritage and fierce determination, competing in the Big South Conference with upstate green and black pride. The program’s legacy includes the 1982 NAIA National Championship, characterized by an undefeated five-game tournament run. Their identity evolved from the Rifles, honoring Revolutionary War heroes, to the fierce Spartan warrior spirit they exhibit today. Notable NBA alumni such as Torrey Craig reflect the program’s commitment to developing champions who perform at the highest levels. The G.B. Hodge Center serves as a battlefield where mascot Sparty rallies fans, while venues like Cleveland S. Harley Baseball Park and County University Soccer Stadium amplify team spirit.
