Vanderbilt University Commodores combine academic prestige with athletic excellence in Nashville, Tennessee. Since adopting the distinguished "Commodores" nickname, honoring founder Cornelius Vanderbilt, the university has built a legacy defined by competitive integrity and championship success. At the forefront is the Commodores baseball program, which has elevated Nashville to a collegiate baseball powerhouse with two College World Series championships in 2014 and 2019 under the leadership of legendary coach Tim Corbin. The 2014 title marked Vanderbilt’s first national championship in any men’s sport, and the team has produced numerous MLB stars like David Price, Sonny Gray, and Walker Buehler. Despite being the SEC's only private university with a selective small student body, Vanderbilt excels across campus athletics with six NCAA team championships, including women’s bowling’s three national titles and a 2015 women’s tennis championship. Memorial Gymnasium, with its intimate setting and fervent fans, creates a unique and intense atmosphere at home games. Vanderbilt embodies a rare balance of elite academics and elite athletics, cultivating student-athletes who compete with excellence and uphold the university’s proud tradition within “Commodore Nation.”
