Team Profile
The Coppin State Eagles embody the ultimate underdog spirit, the tenacious resilience of West Baltimore, and a history of achieving the impossible. Coppin State is forever etched in the annals of March Madness for pulling off one of the most monumental upsets in sports history: the 1997 victory where the No. 15 seeded Eagles stunned the No. 2 seed South Carolina. That legendary victory under iconic coach Ron "Fang" Mitchell became a symbol of the giant-killer potential of every team in the tournament and cemented the program's fearless identity. Beyond the hardwood, the Eagles have built a dynasty in track and field, dominating the MEAC for decades with numerous conference championships and developing world-class talent, including Olympians. As a proud and competitive member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Coppin State has a long history of capturing conference titles, earning its opportunities to shine on the national stage. The Coppin State Eagles serve as a permanent inspiration, a testament to the idea that with heart and belief, even the smallest eagle can soar high enough to topple giants.
