The Eastern Kentucky Colonels represent the spirit and resilience of Kentucky at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. Since 1906, the Colonels have built a commanding athletics tradition, competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference with maroon and white pride. Their story is defined by outstanding achievements, including two NCAA Division I-AA Football National Championships in 1979 and 1982 under Hall of Fame coach Roy Kidd—a legendary figure whose 38-year tenure shaped the program’s identity. With 20 Ohio Valley Conference football titles and a rich basketball history featuring eight NCAA tournament appearances, Eastern Kentucky embodies Bluegrass grit and championship culture. Roy Kidd Stadium and Baptist Health Arena vibrate with fan passion, hosting fierce football battles and hardwood excellence.
