Team Profile
The Florida Memorial University Lions embody a proud HBCU heritage, the vibrant and resilient spirit of South Florida, and a tradition of producing legendary athletes from their home in Miami Gardens. As the only historically Black university in South Florida, the Lions' athletic programs are a powerful symbol of community pride, cultural significance, and opportunity. The university's legendary past is personified by "Bullet" Bob Hayes, the only athlete in history to win both an Olympic gold medal and a Super Bowl ring, a testament to the world-class speed and talent forged at FMU. On the basketball court, the Lions have a rich history of success, highlighted by a memorable run to the 2007 NAIA National Championship game. In the modern era, that same spirit of resilience was on full display with the triumphant return of the university's football program after a 61-year hiatus, a journey that has re-energized the entire campus and community. The Florida Memorial Lions are a proud and historic institution, a program that honors its legendary past while boldly building a new legacy of success in The Sun Conference.
