Team Profile
The Gardner–Webb Runnin' Bulldogs embody the resilient spirit of the North Carolina foothills at Gardner–Webb University in Boiling Springs. Since 1922, this program has crafted a legacy defined by fearless competition and giant-killing victories. Competing proudly in the Big South Conference with red and black pride, the Bulldogs are known for memorable upsets, including the historic 2007 basketball victory over Kentucky recognized nationwide by ESPN and commentators like Dick Vitale. The 2018–19 undefeated 13-0 home season, wins over Georgia Tech and Wake Forest, and first NCAA Tournament appearance—immortalized in "The Dancin’ Bulldogs" documentary—underscore the team’s rise. Success spans beyond basketball, with women’s soccer conference championships and a swimming program that boasts NCAA qualifiers and Olympic Trials competitors. Their baseball "Diamond Dogs" have produced Major League talent including Blake Lalli. Mac the Bulldog leads the charge from Paul Porter Arena to Ernest W. Spangler Stadium, as 22 varsity sports compete with championship spirit. Gardner–Webb proves that heart and determination turn underdogs into legends, where champions rise and giants fall.
