The Liberty Flames and Lady Flames symbolize Virginia’s competitive heart at Liberty University in Lynchburg. Since 1971, the Flames have risen with fiery determination competing in Conference USA, proudly sporting red, navy blue, and white. Their story includes NCAA record holder Sam Chelanga, whose 10,000-meter performances earned four NCAA Division I gold medals along with Olympic-level acclaim. In 2024, Liberty captured the Conference USA football championship with a perfect 12-0 regular season, marking a major milestone. Elite athletes like Clarence Powell, who earned 16 All-Conference honors, highlight the program’s depth across 20 varsity sports. Williams Stadium and Liberty Arena host passionate Flames fans led by mascot Sparky the Eagle, embodying a fiery competitive spirit. LaHaye Ice Center rounds out facilities showcasing championship atmosphere across multiple sports.
