The Marshall Thundering Herd symbolize resilience and championship pride at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Competing in NCAA Division Iās Sun Belt Conference, this program includes four national championships highlighted by two NCAA Division I-AA Football National Championships (1992, 1996) and the 2020 NCAA Division I menās soccer title. Instrumental in breaking racial barriers, coach Cam Henderson developed the fast break and 2-3 zone defense and recruited Hall of Famer Hal Greer. The program honors the legacy following the tragic 1970 plane crash, inspiring remarkable resilience. The menās soccer team has made six straight NCAA Tournament appearances, while the football program boasts 21 bowl game appearances. Joan C. Edwards Stadium serves as a historic home venue. Marshallās sustained commitment to excellence produces professional athletes and champions who carry forward the Thundering Herdās spirit of perseverance.
