Team Profile
The Marshall Thundering Herd symbolize resilience and championship pride at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Competing in NCAA Division I’s Sun Belt Conference, this program includes four national championships highlighted by two NCAA Division I-AA Football National Championships (1992, 1996) and the 2020 NCAA Division I men’s soccer title. Instrumental in breaking racial barriers, coach Cam Henderson developed the fast break and 2-3 zone defense and recruited Hall of Famer Hal Greer. The program honors the legacy following the tragic 1970 plane crash, inspiring remarkable resilience. The men’s soccer team has made six straight NCAA Tournament appearances, while the football program boasts 21 bowl game appearances. Joan C. Edwards Stadium serves as a historic home venue. Marshall’s sustained commitment to excellence produces professional athletes and champions who carry forward the Thundering Herd’s spirit of perseverance.
