Team Profile
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks embody a proud history, a tradition of pioneering success, and the unique spirit of their home on Maryland's Eastern Shore. In the modern era, UMES has built a national dynasty in women's bowling, capturing multiple NCAA National Championships and establishing itself as one of the most dominant and respected programs in the sport's history. The university's soul, however, is rooted in the legendary 1973-74 men's basketball team, a 27-win powerhouse that made history as the first HBCU to earn an invitation to the prestigious National Invitation Tournament (NIT). As a charter member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, "The Hawk" has a long and storied tradition of competing for championships, particularly in track and field where the program has enjoyed decades of success. The Hawk mascot symbolizes the keen focus and competitive pride that has allowed a small school to achieve greatness on the biggest stages. The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks represent a legacy of breaking barriers and building champions, a proud testament to the enduring spirit of excellence at a historic institution.
