The Missouri State Bears and Lady Bears proudly showcase a tradition of athletic excellence and competitive strength at Missouri State University in Springfield. Competing in NCAA Division I within Conference USA, the Bears have garnered five national championships and consistently produced elite professional and Olympic-level athletes across 19 varsity sports. Led by mascots Boomer the Bear and Growl the Bear, Missouri State’s basketball program shines with back-to-back NAIA national titles in 1952 and 1953, while the Lady Bears boast two Final Four appearances, propelled by legendary scorer Jackie Stiles, the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer. The softball team secured the 1974 AIAW national championship and the men’s golf team won the 1963 NCAA Division II title. The Great Southern Bank Arena and Robert W. Plaster Stadium provide competitive venues enhancing championship traditions. Missouri State’s athletic programs have consistently developed Olympians and national athletes competing at the highest levels in swimming, track and field, and more.
