The North Dakota State Bison stand as a collegiate powerhouse representing the Great Plains at North Dakota State University in Fargo. Since 1919, the Thundering Herd has established a dominant athletic legacy competing in The Summit League with green and yellow pride. The program boasts 30 NCAA national championships spanning multiple sports—most notably an historic football dynasty with 17 national titles, including five consecutive FCS championships from 2011 through 2015, and repeated titles in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2024. The women’s basketball team claimed five NCAA Division II championships in the 1990s, while the wrestling program has earned four national titles, underscoring multi-sport dominance. Home games at the Fargodome and Scheels Center are vibrant and charged, where mascot Thundar rallies the faithful. Known for landmark victories including basketball upsets over Kansas and Oklahoma, the Bison combine prairie grit and Great Plains values. Green and yellow warriors define the Bison’s tradition, forging champions at the heart of North Dakota’s collegiate athletics.
