The Old Dominion Monarchs, representing Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, compete in NCAA Division I’s Sun Belt Conference wearing slate blue, silver, and light blue. The Monarchs’ distinguished legacy includes 28 NCAA national championships across multiple sports. The women’s basketball program boasts a dynasty with three national championships, breaking barriers by awarding Nancy Lieberman the first athletic varsity scholarship to a Virginia female. Their field hockey team is a national powerhouse with nine NCAA titles and a streak of 66 consecutive wins. The football program had a historic 9-2 debut in 2009, and wrestling produced three NCAA champions with 21 All-Americans. Notably, the men’s rowing club captured the 2008 ACRA national championship, showcasing the Monarchs’ balanced excellence. Old Dominion’s rich athletic tradition continues to thrive with dedicated facilities and a culture fostering championship development across their many competitive arenas.
