Team Profile
The SIUE Cougars embody a rich championship history, a tenacious competitive spirit, and the pride of Illinois' Metro East region from their campus in Edwardsville. The university's athletic identity is defined by its legendary men's soccer program, a historic powerhouse that won two Division II National Championships before becoming a Division I national runner-up in 1979 and continuing its legacy with modern NCAA Tournament appearances. After a decorated era in Division II, SIUE successfully transitioned its entire athletic department to the Division I level, establishing itself as a consistent contender within the Ohio Valley Conference. The Cougars have found success across the board in their new era, with the softball team capturing an OVC title and a tough-nosed wrestling program competing as the state's lone Division I team in the formidable Mid-American Conference. The Cougar mascot symbolizes the fierce and determined approach SIUE brings to every competition, representing a program that consistently fights for championships. SIUE athletics stands as a testament to successful growth, leveraging a storied past to build a competitive and respected Division I program in the Greater St. Louis region.
