Team Profile
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles represent the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg with black and gold pride. Competing in NCAA Division I’s Sun Belt Conference, the Golden Eagles hold a rich athletic tradition highlighted by two College Division National Championships in football (1958, 1962) and legendary NFL alumni including Hall of Famer Brett Favre. Noteworthy is punter Ray Guy, NFL Team of the Century, and Pro Bowl standout Hanford Dixon. The program features three undefeated seasons and sixteen consecutive winning seasons through 2011, producing 30 All-Americans and 12 first-team selections. The men’s basketball team won the 1987 NIT Championship, while women’s basketball has made eight NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the Sweet 16 in 1994. Baseball reached its first College World Series in 2009, and softball made back-to-back Women’s College World Series appearances in 1999 and 2000. The iconic Seymour d’Campus mascot rallies fans with the “Eagle Fever” spirit, fostering championship traditions and professional success.
