The UT Permian Basin Falcons embody the ambitious energy of the West Texas oil patch, a spirit of determined growth, and a culture of blue-collar grit from their home in Odessa, Texas. The university's modern identity is being forged on the football field, where the Falcons have achieved a remarkably rapid ascent, launching their program in 2016 and quickly becoming a perennial contender for the NCAA Division II playoffs in the formidable Lone Star Conference. This breakthrough success was mirrored on the basketball court, where the men's team made its own historic run to the 2017 NCAA Tournament's Sweet Sixteen, putting the program on the national map. Competing against the best in Division II, UTPB has also captured conference championships in sports like men's soccer and swimming.
