Team Profile
The Winthrop University Eagles embody a dynastic basketball tradition, a culture of sustained excellence, and the passionate pride of their home in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Winthrop's identity is synonymous with Big South Conference basketball, where the Eagles have built one of the most dominant mid-major programs of the 21st century, making an incredible 11 appearances in the NCAA March Madness tournament. The program's crowning achievement came in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, when the No. 11 seeded Eagles captivated the nation by upsetting Notre Dame to secure the university's first-ever March Madness victory. The Winthrop Coliseum stands as a fortress for the Eagles, where the "Rock the Hill" mantra is powered by a famously loud and loyal fanbase, creating one of the toughest home courts in the conference. This championship culture extends across the athletic department, with the women's basketball and softball programs also capturing multiple Big South titles and earning their own trips to the NCAA Tournament. The Winthrop Eagles represent the standard for championship consistency in their conference, a proud program that has proven time and again that a commitment to winning can build a nationally-recognized brand.
