The Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls represent the high country and rugged frontier spirit at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Since 1891, the Cowboys and Cowgirls have competed in the Mountain West Conference with brown and gold pride. Their 1943 NCAA Basketball Championship, led by pioneer Kenny Sailors and his revolutionary jump shot, remains a treasured legacy. Olympic swimmer Scott Usher exemplified Wyoming excellence on the world stage by finishing seventh in the 2004 Athens Olympics 200 breaststroke after earning five NCAA All-American honors. The program has produced three NCAA team championships and 23 individual NCAA champions, fostering Olympic-level talent. War Memorial Stadium, the highest Division I football stadium at 7,220 feet, echoes with brown and gold pride, while the Arena-Auditorium hosts vibrant basketball events.
