The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) is an NCAA Division I conference celebrating its 40th year of competition in 2025-26, with a geographic footprint stretching from Boston to Charleston, South Carolina, encompassing several of the nation's largest media markets. The conference traces its roots to 1979 as the ECAC South Conference, a basketball league made up of independent East Coast schools, before rebranding as the Colonial Athletic Association in 1985 when it expanded to other sports. On July 20, 2023, the conference adopted its current name — the Coastal Athletic Association — to reflect its growing presence along the Eastern Seaboard. The CAA currently fields 13 full members and conducts championships in 24 sports, 10 for men and 13 for women, plus football administered separately through CAA Football. The conference has produced 18 national team champions across five sports, 33 individual national champions, 15 national players of the year and 15 national coaches of the year, while also earning five Rhodes Scholars and 25 NCAA post-graduate scholars. In 2024-25, more than 4,000 CAA student-athletes received the Commissioner's Academic Award after posting at least a 3.0 GPA while lettering in a varsity sport. CAA Football has established itself as one of the premier FCS conferences in the country, earning 128 total playoff berths, recording 43 wins over FBS opponents in its history, and placing a team in the FCS national championship game nine times since 2006. The conference is led by Commissioner Joe D'Antonio, who began his tenure on July 1, 2016.
