The Conference of New England (CNE) is a dynamic and historic NCAA Division III athletic alliance, recently rebranded in 2024 from its former identity as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). Headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts, the CNE perfectly captures the spirit of "Northeast Excellence and Coastal Rivalries." Its footprint spans across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, connecting a diverse mix of elite private colleges and rising university programs. In this league, the athletic culture is deeply intertwined with the region's passionate sporting history, delivering intense competition across all seasons.
The conference’s soul is heavily anchored in its high-level Football and Basketball programs, alongside a fiercely competitive Ice Hockey culture that is a hallmark of New England sports. On the gridiron, programs like Endicott and Western New England have built modern dynasties, bringing a highly tactical, fast-paced brand of Northeast football to the national stage. "CNE Hoops" is characterized by elite guard play, disciplined defensive schemes, and raucous campus environments that make every conference game a high-stakes affair. The recent addition of the University of Hartford has only elevated the competitive floor of the league.
Beyond the turf and the hardwood, the CNE is a regional powerhouse in Men's and Women's Lacrosse, utilizing the deep prep-school and club talent pools of the Northeast to consistently produce NCAA Tournament contenders. With a highly cohesive membership of ten full institutions, the Conference of New England represents a thoroughly modern, progressive brand of Division III athletics: a league that honors its deep coastal roots while aggressively pursuing national championships.
