The East Coast Conference (ECC) is a highly competitive NCAA Division II athletic conference primarily based in New York State, with an additional footprint in the District of Columbia. Established in 1989 as the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference before rebranding, the ECC has earned a national reputation as a powerhouse, particularly in men's lacrosse and basketball. Operating without a sponsored American football schedule, the conference channels its regional intensity into 18 varsity sports. Following a comprehensive "Experience, Compete, Champion" rebranding initiative, the ECC continues to emphasize a balanced approach to athletic excellence, high academic standards, and community engagement. Its member institutions, ranging from private colleges to public universities, compete fiercely for automatic qualifying bids to NCAA postseason tournaments.
