The Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) is the nation's premier NCAA FCS football conference, founded in 1985 as the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference before adopting its current name in 2008. The conference currently features 10 member institutions located throughout the Midwest and is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. The MVFC holds an FCS-best 14 national championships, led by North Dakota State's unprecedented dominance with 10 titles, including five straight from 2011 through 2015 and three straight from 2017 through 2019. South Dakota State added back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023, with NDSU claiming the most recent title in 2024. The conference has reached the FCS title game 20 times, compiling a 14-6 record, and has placed at least one team in the FCS semifinals 37 times overall. Since 2010, the MVFC has posted a playoff record of 107-48 (.690), including a .748 winning percentage against teams from other conferences. The conference has a multimedia rights agreement with ESPN extending through the 2029 season, with all league games distributed on ESPN platforms. Notable MVFC alumni include Carson Wentz, selected second overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, and Trey Lance, selected third overall in 2021. The MVFC's only commissioner for its first 40 years was Patty Viverito, who retired on June 30, 2025, with Jeff Jackson of the Missouri Valley Conference subsequently named commissioner.
