About

The Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) is an NCAA skiing-only conference founded in 1950, and was largely responsible for the creation of skiing as an NCAA championship sport in 1954. Like its eastern counterpart the EISA, the RMISA brings together NCAA Division I and Division II schools under one banner, as the NCAA does not divide skiing by division. The conference competes in both Alpine and Nordic disciplines and has been the dominant force in collegiate skiing nationally, winning 56 of 68 total skiing national championships since 1950, including 53 of 63 NCAA Championships awarded and 29 of the 34 NCAA Championships since skiing went coeducational in 1983. The University of Denver leads all programs with 25 championships including 23 NCAA titles, followed by the University of Colorado with 20 (19 NCAA) and the University of Utah with 11 (10 NCAA). The RMISA currently fields nine members, including seven with NCAA-affiliated ski teams — Alaska Anchorage, Alaska, California, Colorado, Denver, Montana State, and Utah — and two associate members in Colorado Mountain College and Wyoming, whose teams compete in regular season and RMISA championship events but are not eligible for the NCAA Skiing Championships. The conference has produced some of the sport's most accomplished competitors, with its programs consistently supplying athletes to the U.S. Olympic Ski Team and other national programs.
