The East Texas A&M Lions embody a legendary football heritage, a culture built on national championships, and the proud spirit of their region from their home in Commerce, Texas. After decades of dominance at the small-college and Division II levels, the university made the ambitious leap to Division I and the Southland Conference in 2022, rebranding as East Texas A&M to proudly represent their home on a new national stage. The soul of the program lies on the gridiron, where the Lions have captured two national championships, culminating in the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship, a testament to their enduring status as a football powerhouse. This championship pedigree is not limited to football; the Lions also boast multiple national team titles in track and field and a historic 1955 NAIA National Championship in men's basketball. The Lion mascot symbolizes the strength, pride, and fierce competitive spirit that has defined the university through generations.
