The Long Island University Sharks embody bold ambition, a unified new identity, and the dynamic spirit of New York, representing campuses in both Brooklyn and Brookville. Forged in 2019, the Sharks represent the groundbreaking unification of two historic athletic departments—the Division I LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds and the Division II powerhouse LIU Post Pioneers—creating a single, formidable Division I program. The program inherits a rich basketball legacy from its Brooklyn roots, including two NIT National Championships (1939, 1941) and multiple modern appearances in the NCAA Tournament. From its Post campus, LIU draws on a tradition of Division II dominance, most notably a men's lacrosse program that captured multiple NCAA National Championships. Now competing as one under the Shark mascot, LIU is forging a new path of success in the Northeast Conference, already capturing titles in a wide array of sports.
