The New Mexico Lobos represent the University of New Mexico with fierce southwestern spirit and a strong tradition of championship success. Competing in the Mountain West Conference, they boast three NCAA Division I team championships and 78 individual national champions. The back-to-back women’s cross country championships in 2015 and 2017 highlight a dominant distance running program thriving at high altitude. The 2004 skiing national championship displays winter sports prowess. Their iconic basketball venue, The Pit, seats over 15,000 energized fans, where legendary teams have reached 14 NCAA tournaments and produced NBA champions including Michael Cooper. The baseball team has reached a streak of NCAA tournaments, while the golf program has produced PGA Tour winners like Tim Herron and Tommy Armour III. Soccer success includes a 2005 national championship appearance, and Olympian Josh Kerr represents track and field excellence. Named for the Spanish word for “wolf,” the Lobos embody fierce independence and pack mentality, with colors reflecting New Mexico’s stunning natural landscapes. Led by mascots Lobo Louie and Lucy, the Lobos continue to rise with Southwest determination and championship ambition.
