Team Profile
The University of San Francisco Dons embody a legendary basketball dynasty, a rich history of championship success, and the proud spirit of their home on "The Hilltop" in San Francisco. The university's place in sports immortality was secured in the 1950s, when future Hall of Famers Bill Russell and K.C. Jones led the Dons on a historic 60-game winning streak and to back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 1955 and 1956, creating one of basketball's first great dynasties. This championship pedigree is just as profound on the soccer pitch, where the men's program has built its own dynasty, capturing an incredible five NCAA National Championships. After deliberately rebuilding its program to honor that legacy, the university made a triumphant return to the national stage, earning an emotional bid to the 2022 NCAA March Madness tournament, its first in over two decades. As a charter member of the West Coast Conference, the Dons' storied history lives on inside the historic War Memorial Gymnasium. The San Francisco Dons represent a program with a championship legacy that few can match, a proud institution that stands as a pillar of both San Francisco and college basketball history.
