The Hokies open the season on August 20, 2026 at Thompson Field. The Hokies are anchored in a long Virginia Tech athletic tradition. Thompson Field opened in 2003 across from Lane Stadium and is named for Sandra D. Thompson, a longtime supporter of women’s athletics at Virginia Tech. The Hokies are 12-7-4 in the NCAA tournament and 8-2-2 in matches played in Virginia. Six of those appearances came without a seed, and they won six matches anyway. In 2007 they beat third ranked Connecticut at Storrs on the way to the College Cup. In 2016, unseeded, they won at tenth ranked Charlotte and then in overtime at seventh ranked Indiana. Between 2016 and 2021 they reached the tournament six times and won a match in every one.
