14 Schools•Division II•Est. 1912
The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association is the "Prestige Powerhouse" of the central plains, a premier NCAA Division II conference that operates with the fervor and resource-depth of a major FBS league. Headquartered in Kansas City, the MIAA is defined by an identity of "Midwestern Might and Academic Merit," comprising a collection of historic state universities that serve as the cultural and athletic epicenters of their respective regions. Stretching from the rolling prairies of Kansas and Missouri to the rugged landscapes of Nebraska and Oklahoma, the MIAA is a sanctuary of "Small-Town Sovereignty." In this league, "MIAA" isn't just a conference—it’s a brand of excellence that commands national respect and produces a relentless stream of trophies.
The conference’s soul is eternally anchored in its status as a National Championship Engine, particularly on the gridiron and the hardwood. MIAA Football is widely considered one of the most brutal and high-level environments in college sports, characterized by a "Physicality and Precision" philosophy. Programs like Northwest Missouri State (a multi-time national champion dynasty) and Pittsburg State (home of the "Gorilla Nation" and some of the highest attendance figures in DII) turn Saturday afternoons into high-stakes spectacles. The "Fall Classic" at Arrowhead Stadium and the fierce rivalries involving Central Missouri, Emporia State, and Washburn ensure that the path to the national title frequently passes through the MIAA.
