The National Collegiate Hockey Conference was founded on July 9, 2011, with play beginning in the 2013-14 season, making it one of the newest major conferences in Division I athletics. Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the NCHC currently has nine members after Arizona State joined for the 2024-25 season; St. Thomas is set to join in 2026-27. Despite its youth, the conference has already produced seven national champions in its first 12 seasons of play — a remarkable rate of championship production. The NCHC awards the Penrose Cup to its regular-season champion and launched NCHC.tv in 2014, its own streaming network for fans.
