Team Profile
The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners embody a rugged, blue-collar identity, a legacy of national championships, and the fighting spirit of California's Central Valley. Forged in a dominant Division II era, the Roadrunners' athletic heritage is defined by a men's basketball dynasty that captured three NCAA National Championships, including a perfect undefeated season in 1993. This tradition of toughness is epitomized by its wrestling program, a perennial powerhouse that competes in the Pac-12 Conference and has produced numerous NCAA Division I national champions, including the legendary Stephen Neal. After successfully transitioning to Division I, the basketball program created a new chapter of history, winning a conference title on a dramatic buzzer-beater to earn its first March Madness bid in 2016 and following it with a run to the NIT semifinals. Now a competitive member of the Big West Conference, CSUB brings its tough, no-frills style of play to a new set of California rivals. The CSUB Roadrunners represent a brand of athletics built on hard work and a proven championship pedigree, standing as a proud testament to the resilience and determination of Bakersfield.
