Colorado Mountain College (CMC) is a premier public dual-mission institution serving approximately 14,000 students annually across western Colorado. Founded following a voter-approved initiative in 1965, the college district spans eight mountain counties surrounded by 18 ski resorts, 24 14,000-foot peaks, and 15 wilderness areas. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, CMC offers a comprehensive curriculum featuring bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, and career-technical certificates.
In 2021, Colorado Mountain College achieved two major historic milestones:
With a low 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio, CMC combines small class environments with accessible, low-debt degree options. The college operates residential campuses in Steamboat Springs, Leadville, and Spring Valley (Glenwood Springs), as well as academic locations in Aspen, Breckenridge, Carbondale, Dillon, Rifle, Salida, and the Vail Valley.
CMC supports varsity collegiate athletics including a competitive Alpine Ski Team based at the Steamboat Springs campus and a Cross Country team centered at the Leadville campus. Students also actively engage in outdoor recreational sports, trail running, cycling, disc golf, and competitive outdoor activities facilitated by the college’s world-class mountain locations.
