The Atlantic 10 Conference was founded on March 2, 1975, when eight universities met in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and created the Eastern Collegiate Basketball League. Duquesne won the first championship, beating Villanova at The Spectrum in Philadelphia. The league now spans fourteen universities across nine states and the District of Columbia and crowns champions in more than twenty sports.
Basketball built the reputation. The Atlantic 10 is a multiple bid league that wins games in the NCAA Tournament and sends its players to the NBA and WNBA.
